Rightwing influencers in the US who are often aligned with Donald Trump are angry that a joint justice department and FBI memo has dismissed the existence of a “client list” in the case against late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The disgraced financier killed himself in a jail cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City in 2019 while awaiting prosecution on child sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges.

Almost ever since, Epstein’s death has been the subject of conspiracy theories on the right, including a supposed “client list” that he purportedly used to blackmail wealthy co-conspirators.

I always thought the belief was that he was ordered to kill himself, not that someone did it for him. Like Frank Pentangelie in godfather 2. Like a “kill yourself or everyone you love dies” type of thing

It really doesn’t have to be from someone else. Lots of people kill themselves after being exposed as pedophiles and realizing that they’re about to go to jail for it. He could have easily just bribed the guards to let him kill himself and anyone else involved would still have a vested interest in keeping evidence suppressed.

Right. It wasn’t like him getting locked up was a surprise. And if you’re gonna off yourself, there are a lot of less painfull ways to do it (if you still have the opportunity) than hanging.
