    absolutely braindead design

You’ve clearly not worked at my company

Azure devops and pipelines but only that and nothing more (not allowed to deploy to azure/microsoft stuff)

    ONLY deploy cf to Aws

write primarily c# for all services, even our websites (iis 7, cshtml)

only exception is a new mobile app which is written in React Native, but even that is more bloated than the windows 11 start menu. It’s the only exception.

Projects are generally so poorly maintained, we’re still using bootstrap 4, outdated framework versions. I know personally there’s a windows server 2003 chugging along somewhere.

“we know about this (medium) bug/vuln, we can work around it. Just add this new feature to the codebase” but imagine this times 100. I quietly fix the bugs because i wouldn’t be able to live with myself otherwise.

the projects are 95% boiler plate for the simplest of tasks (curl a thing and pass it to another service has about 40 different classes), no processing…

“Aws Q first” company where none of the developers actually get access to write code with. Explicitly forbidden from using copilot: “it’ll use our code for their training”… right. Won’t someone think of our flawless, industry standard code. Also, that’s not how that works.

security none existsnt. Aws security tools used to scream at you every time you open the aws console. Solution at the company was to restrict views to those pages so (most) people don’t see the security/vuln reports. To get reports, you’d have to ask cybersec.

most developers are in a constant state of burnout.

There’s more but i’d violate my NDA too much at that point.

we’re expected to hit 1/2 b gbp profit in couple years

i think we, the developers at our company, are the biggest clowns in the entire IT industry. And yeah, we’re reponsible for your gov ids & loan applications.

  • There are loads of idiots out there that just don’t care that their five year old watches porn

Yeah but we’re not making knifes plastic because some little Darwin Award winner might trip and fall playing with it when their parents are not doing their duties.

Louis Rossman talked against the idea that people are dying because they can easily cancel their security subscriptions. Here’s a little transcript. It’s a little off topic but I find that it works in this case because you can subsitute this for covid lockdowns or even the topic of children getting a hold of gross content like porn or violent content.

now one of the things that bothered me back in 2020 and one of the things I talked about with Andrew Kuomo is when he said something that I found to be demagoguic in nature when he said “If it saves even one life right?” And the reason that that bothered me is not because I don’t care about saving human life it’s not because I am not willing to go out of my way and do everything humanly possible to help all those around me it’s because that standard ignores all negative externalities

In the vain, I might sound like an asshole but i’m not willing to protect 1 child in a way that will make the internet worse for millions of people.

Spoiler'd: consider this your cw/tw. I don't want to trigger people and if you're squirmish might be best to avoid.

kids watching porn vs kids watching ultra violent movies or even real violence online

i’ve had access to porn since i was 8. My friend used to send me isis beheading videos over skype. Used to lurk on /b/ for rekt (basically “watch people die”) & porn threads. used to play violent vidia (gta/postal/cod/shooters generally etc) at the time too.

I’ve seen all of the above and I turned out fine, i guess.

I’d say i’ve experienced more trauma with my love life and relationships with the backstabbing/games/gas lighting/taking advantage and calling it love. I think that fucked me up more than any content on the internet ever did. Heck, i don’t even rememeber my worst relationship because my just brain blocks it out.

or maybe there’s just something wrong with me that even I don’t know about as a result of what I saw as a kid. i mean, I honestly don’t know.

i wonder if this makes me an interesting resesrch specimen tho lmao

please keep in mind that this is just my experience and doesn’t make for a good argument for or against legislation of the internet.

  • Taiwanese

AMD & Nvidia are American companies, for better or worse. The Taiwanese just make the chips, they don’t actually decide what they look like…

Add a GPS receiver onto every GPU? Add an inertial navigation module to every GPU? Add a radio to every GPU? :D

if it’s possible, which I agree with you, is highly unlikely, i’d assume it’d be something like html canvas fingerprinting. Rather than adding more stuff to the gpu, the gpu could be made to generate a specific fingerprint. I recon it’d be a very easy task for the hardware vendors.

Heck, there might be other ways we don’t even know yet, kinda like the glowy ethernet port. I could see that working very easily in conjunction to the GPU.

In the real world, you can prevent a chip from knowing where it’s running and you can’t add random shit onto a chip, and if someone does, you can stop buying bugged hardware or prevent that random addition from getting a reading.

please read up on intel management engine and amd’s equivelent. That shit runs on your system in ring minus 3. Oh yeah, ARM also has something similar.

China is also making it’s own x86 cpus, but I bet they’re laced with more spyware than the above.

You honestly have virtually 0 other cpu options. Everything is bugged… Who would you buy from in this case? It’s virtually unavoidable :/
